Rotherham Shakespeare Festival
As a lead practitioner and a participant in the previous Open Minds Shakespeare festival we are now re- starting the festival from 2026!
What we offer
We are starting small and have limited places but are taking registers of interest to build a list for the following year.
We offer a half day of Royal Shakespeare Company practitioner led training for teachers.
Each class are assigned a professional theatre practitioner for 2.5 days between March- June to help edit the text and facilitate work with the children and to assist in directing.
We will provide the venue, lights/sound and assistance on the day.
A resource pack of helpful materials and approaches.
Constant help, Guidance and support throughout the process.
Help with technical Script and costume/ Prop ideas.
Plot summary and key themes and quotes.
You will be assigned a set amount of tickets to sell to parents/ guardians before the performance.
Prices will be agreed between hubs / classes.
What we need from you
Schools are asked to contribute £450 only and to cover the transport to and from the performance venue.
You will need to assign a keen teacher who is open to trying creative ideas out, to lead on the project and who will embed the work into the curriculum and rehearse with the children In addition to working with our practitioner.
You may need to provide one or two support staff for the day of performance and quiet activities to keep children occupied when they are waiting to rehearse and perform.
Children should bring a packed lunch for the day and/or food may be able to be ordered in for early evening/late afternoon.
Permission slips and safeguarding forms / photo consent forms will need completing and returning.
Performance day is likely to take place between May- July. The date will be agreed and confirmed by Feb.
